Address Delivered At The Commissioning Of The Rehabilitated Epe Fire Station At Itamarun Epe On Thursday 6th July, 2017

The safety of all residents of Lagos has always been a priority of our administration from inception. We are totally committed to not only ensuring the safety of lives and property but also to effectively react to emergency situations that may arise.

Our State has grown tremendously in the last 18 years and this has led to a phenomenal increase in our population. With this growth, our State has experienced more socio-economic activities, urbanization and massive construction projects. All these have increased the likelihood of emergency situation.

The commissioning of this newly rehabilitated fire station here in Epe is part of the ongoing efforts of this administration to upgrade the firefighting capacity of the State Fire Service.  In addition to providing modern equipment, we will also establish more fire stations across the State especially in areas that are considered high risk because of the population and level of industrial and commercial activities.

We shall ensure synergy and effective coordination of efforts between the current fourteen [14] fire stations and other emergency responders for effective response to distress calls in any part of the State.

Beyond enhancing response capacity to emergencies, adequate emphasis will also be given to preventive measures by escalating fire prevention and safety advocacy. We must learn from recent happenings in other parts of the world by strengthening our monitoring and surveillance capacity to prevent unnecessary loss of lives and properties.

We are committed to strengthening our Emergency Response Agency as this is our sure bet to mitigate against unforeseen accidents or situations.

On a final note, l would like to emphasise the need to ensure proper and regular maintenance of all facilities that have been provided to ensure quick response wherever the need arises. All rescue and other emergency equipment must always be in their best conditions ready for deployment at all times.

I commend the staff and management of the State Fire Service for their continued good performance. Also the Ministry of Special duties for their sustained campaign to improve on service delivery in the State.

Thank you and God bless you all.

Itesiwaju Ipinle Eko, lo je wa logun!!!

His Excellency,

Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode

Governor of Lagos State,

Alausa, Ikeja.
