The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos state, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, was present at a well-conducted 3rd National Convention Presidential Primary of the party held at the Teslim Balogun stadium, Lagos.

In a democratic manner similar to that through which Akinwunmi Ambode himself recently emerged victorious as the party’s gubernatorial flag bearer in Lagos, the APC conducted a successful presidential primary election which yielded General Muhammadu Buhari as the winner.

The Dr. Kayode Fayemi-led National planning committee lived up to its promise of delivering a well-conducted primary and convention where 7,214 accredited delegates participated. The whole event was characterized by a strong sense of unity, brotherliness, progressiveness, devotion and change.

Speaking through their national chairman, Chief John Oyegun, the APC introduced a manifesto of “hope, aspiration and help”, to kick off an eventful convention.

Akinwunmi Ambode earlier expressed his pride in being a product of a party like the APC where processes work well, and was happy to be involved in the almost 2-day proceedings, both as a keen observer and as a gubernatorial flag bearer.
He was warmly received by the Lagos State delegates as well as delegates of other states.

Mr. Ambode also met with top party stalwarts and chieftains from all parts of the country, most of who congratulated him for the victory at the primary and engaged him in productive discuss.

The Presidential primary was adjudged a free, fair and transparent one. And, in the spirit of sportsmanship, the presidential aspirants took turns to congratulate and promise concerted support for the winner, General Muhammadu Buhari to make sure that the CHANGE Nigeria deserves is achieved.

Akinwunmi Ambode eulogized the party for laying down standards of internal democracy which other parties should consider emulating.

The Lagos state APC governorship candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode, paid a commendation visit to the state’s party leadership at the party headquarters in Acme road, Lagos.

Full of appreciation and gratitude, Mr. Ambode spoke glowingly about the excellent manner through which the party, under the proficient leadership of Otunba H.O Ajomale, had conducted the party primaries in the state. In his words, “the rancor-free, open and transparent manner in which the primary elections to the State House of Assembly, the National Assembly and for the Governorship slot were conducted, in the full glare of the media and various observers, stood the All Progressive Congress (APC) out as the Party worthy of emulation.”

Describing the commendable feat, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode stated that the APC in Lagos state has demonstrated strength, popularity and acceptability as the preferred choice of the people, judging by the huge number of delegates that voted at the primary election last Thursday. “Our party has shown to the world its sterling qualities; that ours is a unified, non-acrimonious, and accountable party. We have also shown that internal democracy can thrive and be well communicated to the whole nation. This is what your leadership has achieved”.

He expressed similar optimism at a successful conduct of the Presidential primary election to be held in the state tomorrow.

Speaking further, he used the moment to restate his submission to the progressive statues of the party and its leadership, promising continual commitment to the excellent direction the state had already headed under the party’s leadership.

In their response, the party leadership appreciated the commendation visit, and assured of their continual believe in Akinwunmi Ambode’s capabilities to excellently fly the party’s flag in the 2015 elections.

Akinwunmi Ambode Visits Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the Lagos state 2015 general elections, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, on Monday visited the state Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) in his office.

Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode was there to formally inform the Governor of his nomination as the APC gubernatorial candidate for the 2015 elections, while he also sought his support for the election.

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, had earlier urged Lagosians to vote for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, to sustain the programmes of his administration.

Fashola stated that total support for the APC candidate would ensure continuity in the enjoyment of good governance and high performance in the state. He said, “I urge you all to support the new APC governorship candidate and make sure that the festival continues. You have a role to play; you have to register and you have to collect your Permanent Voter Cards and then you can use your vote to choose who you want.”

Mr. Ambode’s Monday’s visit to Fashola together with the Governor’s well-publicized congratulatory message to the APC governorship candidate is a strong indication that both of them will work together in the campaign to retain the seat of power in Lagos come the gubernatorial elections in 2015.

My fellow Lagosians, it is with a deep sense of gratitude and humility that I accept this ticket to run as the flag bearer of our great party, APC in the 2015 gubernatorial elections. This victory was made possible by you the people through the delegates. And to my fellow contestants, I have nothing but commendation and respect for putting up a good contest.I congratulate all aspirants for the keen contest. I extend my hand of fellowship and ask you to join me, in not only winning the general election in February 2015 but to continue to build the tradition of excellence in governance that our party has come to be associated with in Lagos State. The success of this primary and the victory that has come out of it is not just for me but for all of us that stepped into the water. It is a victory for Lagosians and for democracy.I thank all the delegates, over 5,000 of you who voted according to your consciences. For once, you did not waver in your faith in the process put in place by our great party, APC. To the State party Executive and the National officers, I extend my appreciation for the long hours and the experience invested in this exercise. The orderliness, the transparency of the process and the spirit of sportsmanship devoid of bitterness that characterized this process signpost a better future for our democracy.Our party has demonstrated to all that we are a party of great minds and democratic ideals. The flag of the party that you have handed over to me I accept with a deep sense of history, knowing fully well that Lagos deserves nothing but the best in terms of good governance and dynamic development. The task ahead is daunting, but surmountable. We have only just commenced the first phase of the execution of our political agenda. The next phase beckons. We must all work together to usher APC back into power in Lagos state.

Akinwunmi Ambode clinches Lagos APC gubernatorial ticket

After weeks of vigorous campaigns and spurious permutations by the aspirants, Akinwunmi Ambode today emerged winner of the Lagos state APC gubernatorial primaries held at the Onikan stadium, Lagos. It was a landslide victory secured in a hitch-free contest.

Barring renewed stories of agitation by 11 out of the 13 gubernatorial aspirants over a preferable voting module, the primary election eventually went on to be conducted peacefully as earlier scheduled.

Akinwunmi Ambode polled a massive 3,735 votes out of the valid 5,724 delegates’ votes cast. In a distant second was Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat with 1,201 votes. Senator Ganiyu Solomon accrued 272 votes to be in third position, Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji in fourth with 182, Supo Shasore polled 121 votes to achieve fifth, Dr. Leke Pitan got 112 votes for sixth position while 69 votes made Dr. Tola Kasali seventh.
Sparse figures of 17, 9 and 7 were votes gotten by Tayo Ayinde, Adekunle Disu and Tokunbo Wahab respectively.
Aspirants Lanre Ope, Abayomi Sutton and Tokunbo Agbesanwa successfully polled 0 vote in all.

The voting process kicked off with delegates from the Epe Division at about 2:15pm. Other 19 LGAs took turns to enfranchise deep into the evening till voting was concluded by Lagos Island LGA around 9:30pm.

Sorting of the votes commenced around 10pm, and signs of Akinwunmi Ambode’s victory became clear as he raced to a steep early lead, moving on to amass the most votes in each of the ballot boxes sorted.

After a strenuous collation and counting session, the head of the electoral committee, Reverend Peter Obada, reviewed the results of the election and announced Akinwunmi Ambode as the winner having gotten the highest number of the total votes. Rev Obada saluted the aspirants and delegates for their maturity and lawfulness which made it possible to achieve a seamless election process.

Ambode dedicated the victory first to the Almighty God without who the victory couldn’t have been achieved. He thanked the party leadership and the party faithful for the unflinching support they had given to his selfless aspiration. More for showing dedication and patience to ensure success of the primaries.

He eulogized the party as one of great minds and the type that epitomizes enviable internal democracy.

He used the opportunity to remind the party faithful and all Lagosians that the job is just half-done, with the general elections still coming soon. In the spirit of excellence that Lagos state is known for, a clearly excited Ambode urged them to remain resolute with him to achieve greater levels of good governance for the state, through their votes come February 2015.
