Respite has come the way of residents living around Somolu Local Government Area precisely the highly dreaded Odunlade and Fadipe streets which were always prone to flooding during the rains as the Lagos State Public Works Corporation commences massive reconstruction of the roads.
Speaking with the Special Adviser/ CEO (LSPWC), Engr. Ayotunde Sodeinde during an inspection to the project sites, disclosed that the road projects became necessary when the Governor discovered the poor state of the roads during his routine inspections of on-going projects in Lagos state.
Sodeinde expressed the displeasure of the Governor about the poor state of the roads which prompted his directive that the Lagos State Public Works Corporation should move in and fix the roads. “This is exactly what we have done”. Before, this road was impassable and there were no drainage. When we moved in we reconstructed the drainage to discharge from Odunlade Street through Fadipe into a collectable drainage so as to address the problem of flooding.”
The road measuring about 483m is presently under-going base preparation after which asphalting will commence in the next few days if the weather is favourable said Sodeinde.
He lamented the poor sanitation in the area especially the indiscriminate dumping of refuse into the drains which creates blockage and incessant flooding during the raining season; adding that the ministry of the environment and the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) had just concluded a meeting with the Community Development Association (CDA) in that area in order to channel a way forward in improving the sanitation in that community.
The Secretary, Ajosegbemi CDA, Mr. Kehinde Ajayi recounted the sorry state of the roads before the Ambode intervention as pathetic. He was full of praises to the Governor for remembering them while showing optimism that the project, no doubt, will bring succour to the residents of the community.

He also disclosed the readiness of the corporation to contain the rainy season, saying ”our jet patchers are all over the local government fixing all the pot-holes. Some are presently working at Ifako-ijaiye and even along the Lagos -Abeokuta Expressway simply to ensure that our roads are free of pot-hole during the heavy rains.”
Also, the State Legislator representing Ikorodu constituency 01 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanni Agunbiade in a separate inspection visit to the Ikorodu-sagamu road projects berated the Federal Road Maintenance Agency for neglecting that road which is of economic importance to the people.
