Members of the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Riders And Owners Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN) in Lagos state, commonly called “Okada Riders”, today rode in their thousands to support the governorship candidate of the All progressives Congress (APC) Akinwunmi Ambode.
Numbering close to five thousand, the Okada men rode from all parts of Lagos to meet the APC governorship candidate and APC leaders at the Party’s secretariat on Acme Road, Ikeja. The Okada men stated through their leader that the reason for their show of numbers was to unanimously endorse Akinwunmi Ambode’s candidacy and put an end to any speculation surrounding their support for the party. The Okada riders stated that they had a very cordial relationship with the APC and would always support the Party. They stated that people should not use political gimmicks to cause disaffection between the association and the government.
The party thanked them for the overwhelming show of support for sustained progress in Lagos, and promised to maintain the excellent working relationship with the association. The riders were received by the Chairman, West of the Party, Chief Folusho Ologunde. Chief Ologunde used the opportunity to restate that Okadas are not banned from roads in Lagos but rather restricted from the major highways for safety reasons. He said that Okadas were allowed to ply on all inner roads and connecting roads to ease movement of Lagosians. He promised the riders and Lagosians that Akinwunmi Ambode was an honest and caring man who would not do anything to harm the welfare of any section of the society.
