The Council of Arewa Chiefs in Lagos today pledged their total support for Akinwunmi Ambode, the All Progressives Congress(APC) governorship candidate in the forthcoming governorship elections. The Chiefs stated this at a meeting by the council at the residence of the Sarki of Lagos State, Alhaji Kabir Garba.
Alhaji Garba in his remarks said that the Hausa have formed a strong alliance with the APC as evidenced by the results in last week’s presidential elections. They assured that the same support which they gave the APC would be repeated even with a higher impact in the governorship elections. The Sarkin Hausawa said, “it is incumbent on us to support Ambode. We want to continue the good relationship we have been enjoying under the APC”.
He asked the Hausas to disregard the rumours going round that the APC would arrest all hausa okada riders in Lagos when the election is won. He said that this was the work of mischief makers. He said that a committee had been set up to galvanise their people to come out en masse to vate for Ambode and other APC candidates.
The representative of Akinwunmi Ambode, Mr. Taiwo Aiyedun, stated that Mr. Ambode was humbled by the support of the hausa and promised that he would give them equal opportunities to excel in Lagos. Mr. Ambode promised the Hausas that his government would not discriminate against any tribe, race or religion. He assured them that an APC government in Abuja now made it imperative for the APC to be retained in lagos as this would accelerate the already rapid development of Lagos State.
