The All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in Lagos state, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, today engaged the people of Ajegunle in the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area (LGA) in an interactive town-hall meeting, where he took the time to address their concerns and needs as a people.
Mr. Ambode stated at that his gubernatorial intention was entirely borne out his passion to serve the people, with the motive of ensuring their welfare and safety. In addition to that, he said that the manifesto of the APC is absolutely people-oriented and is adequately poised to cater for all their needs and concerns.
Speaking through their leaders, each of the present groups of people and associations expressed appreciation for the good job the present administration of the had done, with a belief that there will be continuity of such. They however took their turns to state particular concerns, which generally bordered on more welfare, further infrastructural and human-capital development, better health facilities, poverty eradication and job provision.
Ambode responded with a promise of returning the government back to the communities, a move he assured will fasten the pace of development in Ajegunle and all other communities in the state. “We will give the government back to the people, to you, the community. This is actually the primary purpose of government. Our policy of creating a thriving economy in each community will make this achievable. There will be no need for you to even travel farther from your zone to thrive and prosper as an individual.”
He said there will be empowerment programmes for youths and artisans to encourage local entrepreneurship, thus, creating wealth and a better livelihood. Ambode then promised to run a very transparent form of government where their interests will be visibly accounted for.
One of the high points of the interactive session came when Professor Yemi Osinbajo graced the event with his presence. The Vice-Presidential candidate of the APC in the 2015 elections, who originally came to commission a presidential campaign office in the area, said his attendance was in “solidarity and respect” for Mr. Ambode. He reminded the people of the importance of supporting continuity of excellence in Lagos, and Change at the centre, adding that, “with your Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and support for the progressive party, we will together change this country for good”.
Ambode reiterated that “more of more” of good governance will be gotten when the APC governs from the centre to complement the works in the states.
He solicited for their collective support to make the desire for continuity actualized. “I am one of you, with the requisite experience to sustain the tradition of excellence in Lagos. Let’s together make this state work for all. Let me represent you, and I assure you that help is on the way”, he stated.
The groups that partook in the town-hall meeting included the association of market women and men, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Taxi Drivers Association, the National Union of Teachers (NUT), religious leaders, traditional rulers, youths, students and all the associations of artisans.
