La Roche Leadership Foundation on Thursday recognized and celebrated some exceptional youths in Lagos today at an event tagged “The Chosen Youth” which held at the Astroturf 2000 in Ikoyi, Lagos. The event recognized the efforts of 13 youths who have contributed immensely to the development of their communities in the areas of Social Enterprise, Sports, Tourism, Social Media, Entertainment and Fashion.
LA ROCHE FOUNDATION CELEBRATES EXCEPTIONAL YOUTHS IN THE LAGOS SOCIETY
La Roche Leadership Foundation on Thursday (September 11, 2014) recognized and celebrated some exceptional youths in Lagos today at an event tagged “The Chosen Youth” which held at the Astroturf 2000 in Ikoyi, Lagos. The event recognized the efforts of 13 youths who have contributed immensely to the development of their communities in the areas of Social Enterprise, Sports, Tourism, Social Media, Entertainment and Fashion.
Speaking at the event, Akinwunmi Ambode the founder of La Roche said “Today we recognise young people who have challenged the status quo and charted a course for themselves. Today we appreciate young men and women who have not let the circumstances in the country put them down but rather used it to motivate themselves. La Roche salutes your courage. La Roche salutes your passion. La Roche salutes your success. La Roche extends a hand of partnership to you and together we can inspire others to leadership and innovation and improve lives in Nigeria”. He said the selected young people had shown leadership qualities and innovation in their endeavours stating that “innovation is the product of vibrant young minds”.
A large number of the 13 Chosen Youths are Social Entrepreneurs, who are pursuing innovative solutions to social problems and making tremendous contributions to their communities. Tosin Taiwo, is the founder of the Street to School initiative which aims to promote access to quality education for children in under-served areas. The initiative provides educational assistance for disadvantaged young people and empowering women in rural areas. So far the foundation has impacted more than 15, 000 young people and women in Lagos state, distributed educational items and conducted series of school-based mentoring program for some 13 public and private schools in Alimosho and Oke-Odo Local Government Area.
