“I will stand for you” – Ambode assures the physically-Challenged

History was made today at the Teslim Balogun stadium as the first political rally specifically for the physically-challenged was organized, and it was in the honour and support of Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate of Lagos state.

Despite their challenges, this group of special people expressed so much enthusiasm for the party APC and for the Mr. Ambode, and the impressive turnout depicted their acceptance of his candidature.

Mr. Ambode also expressed his excitement at making history with the people that he humbly addressed as simply physically challenged, and not “disabled”, even as he identified with them.
“My dear people, we are all Lagosians and you are not disabled. I totally accept and appreciate your support. It is the beginning of another level of comfortability for the physically-challenged. I assure you that I will stand for you!”.

He added, “I will build a new community that has your interest at heart in each locality. While I promise you to run a open-door policy, these communities will be set-up and equipped with specially trained professionals to take care of your needs in a natural way”.

“I understand that we all deserve a better life, and there is no reason to leave you behind”.

The gubernatorial candidate added that the APC has always identified with their challenges, and that this is the time to even take such move higher. Mr. Ambode said, “I assure you that additional support in terms of infrastructure that befits your needs will be done. You deserve all of these and more, especially since you also pay your taxes and express your rights to vote”.

He finally urged them to endeavor to get their Permanent Voter Cards, and allow no man or process to disenfranchise them.

Addressing his comrades, the leader of the umbrella body of these special people, Mr Bayo Willaims assured them all that he had met the governorship candidate, and that he his much more assured that Mr. Ambode is the man to take Lagos to the next level.
“I assure you all, that in Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, we are guaranteed of a true friend”, Mr. Williams added.

Mr. Ambode was joined at the rally by his running mate, Dr. (Mrs) Idiat Oluranti Adebule, the Director-general of his campaign organization, Chief Ologunde and his deputy, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem, entertainment celebrities, and a host of other supporters and volunteers.

The historic rally was put together by a campaign support group called “AmboCorps”, and all physically-challenged associations in the state were in full attendance.

Reflections on visiting Hospices: The Future is about Love, Care and Prosperity

Reflections on visiting Hospices: The Future is about Love, Care and Prosperity

For the past ten years, I have always had the privilege of sharing Christmas gifts with orphanages through my contacts and foundation, La Roche Leadership Foundation. However, my visit to the only children’s hospice in Nigeria on 1st January 2015, the Hearts of Gold Hospice in Surulere, was more educational and emotional than any previous visits. I also visited the SOS Village, Isolo and Modupe Cole Memorial Child Care and Treatment Home School, Akoka, Lagos.

I believe that as a people we have not done enough for the physically challenged citizens amongst us. They are equal partakers in the resources of Lagos State. We must provide adequate care and support for them just like anyone of us would demand of the government.

I have close friends whose children are challenged with various conditions.

I am more committed than ever before to provide world class care centers for the physically challenged in the State and take care of their needs from the cradle. We must integrate them fully into the day to day running of the society.

My promise is to make their issues a foremost state policy. They are part of our future which must be driven by love, care and prosperity. God will help us.
