Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola, SAN on Friday hosted a meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwarts who contested the Governorship primaries of the party in the State, commending their conduct during the primaries and urging them to rally round the party’s flag bearer, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode for the campaigns ahead.
The Governor who spoke at the Lagos House, Ikeja added that there is a need to build the team for the Governorship candidate suggesting that even if it means supporting the flag bearer with the people who helped in their various campaigns, they should all rally round the party’s flag bearer.

“The candidate has to get on the road from yesterday. And nothing would be more enabling and more intimidating for the opposition than to see all the aspirants together with the winner”, he said. Fashola noted that it was a matter of managing time, stressing that once or twice; the aspirants should find the time so that they can give the flag bearer the needed push to go forward with the campaigns. He congratulated the candidates for making Lagos proud with the way they conducted themselves during the Lagos APC primaries adding that it served as push for the bigger Convention of the APC at the national level which turned out to be a success.

He stressed that many of the Presidential candidates borrowed a leaf from the way the Lagos aspirants conducted themselves , adding that he is yet to learn from any state where there were as many as 13 contestants in a delegates election in the current dispensation where there were no bickering. Governor Fashola said all of them embodied the spirit of excellence, adding that this informs his delight at their conduct during the primaries.

Also speaking, the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Chief Henry Ajomale thanked the aspirants for the spirit of sportsmanship that they have displayed during and after the primaries. He said since the process has now been concluded what is left is for everyone to rally round the flag bearer, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode to ensure the success of the party at the 2015 Governorship polls.

Those in attendance at the meeting include the APC flag bearer, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, his Deputy and Secretary to the State Government, Dr (Mrs) Oluranti Adebule, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, former Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr Tola Kasali, Senator representing Lagos West, Senator Ganiyu Solomon, former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Supo Sasore SAN, Mrs Adetokunbo Tobun-Agbesanwa, Mr Abayomi Sutton and Mr Lanre Ope.

The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, received leaders and delegates of Ethnic Groups, Civil Societies and other allied groups at his Gbagada campaign office yesterday, December 18, 2014.

The groups thronged to the Akinwunmi Ambode Campaign Organisation Office in Gbagada to congratulate Mr. Ambode on his emergence as the APC candidate for Lagos State and pledged their support to him for the upcoming elections in February 2015.

Mr. Ambode in his speech assured all present that he was specially positioned to understand the feelings of ethnic and different sectoral groups in Lagos. He shared his story of having had to leave home at the age of 11years to go to Federal Government College, Warri for Secondary School. He described his experience as a child in Warri and how he made friends with people from all parts of Nigeria. This according to him was where his world view was formed through the relationships and friendships he made then.

He also talked about his National Youth Service when he served in Sokoto state with the Central Bank of Nigeria. He stated that his one year in Sokoto gave him a direct appreciation of the Hausa culture and traditions which he would never have had if he had not visited the place. With these experiences, he told the gathering that he has grown to see people not for where they come from or their religion but for who they are and what they can do.

In his words, “we must all work together to make Lagos safe, clean and economically livable for everybody. Lagos is the most cosmopolitan state in Nigeria and Africa. Lagos is Lagos because of all the races and tribes in it. We all make up Lagos, we all have a stake in Lagos and Lagos will work for us.” He promised to cater for all ethnic groups and ensure everybody felt at home in Lagos and had equal opportunities to excel in whatever field they chose.

He said “If I can make it in Lagos, you can too. If Akinwunmi Ambode can become the governorship candidate then your small businesses can grow to become big businesses”. He asked for the support of all ethnic groups and associations to become the next governor of Lagos State. He painted an imagery of his governorship aspiration as one of him as having worked on a construction site called Lagos State as a Labourer, Mason, Plumber, getting to the level of a Supervisor and now seeking to be given the role of the Project Manager. He promised to work for the interest of the people and with the help of God to deliver good governance to all.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Politics and Legislative Matters, Hon. Musiliu Folami welcomed the members of the Ethnic Groups and read the minutes of their previous meeting where they resolved to support Akinwunmi Ambode and the APC in next years’ elections. Chief Ayo Opadokun in his address to the gathering told them that the business of the day was to secure the freedom of the people from those who are in the business of making life difficult for the ordinary man on the street. We are in the business of restoring ourselves because we have been dealt with by people who have taken governance. He stated that Akinwunmi Ambode was the person who could protect the interests of all ethnic groups and create opportunities for all to thrive. He asked the groups to go back and in their separate meetings ask their members to support Akinwunmi Ambode to become the next governor of Lagos State.

Over 30 different groups attended the meeting. Among the groups present were Arewa Community, North Central, Ndigbo General, Mile 12 Market, NANS, June 12 Coalition, Igbo Coalition, NURTW, NANTAP, MOMTAN, RTEAN, Taxi Drivers, CISOCON/NLC and many others.

Akinwunmi Ambode, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for Lagos State and other candidates who emerged at the recently conducted primaries of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State met at the party secretariat at Acme Road, Ogba Ikeja. The meeting which was chaired by the Party Chairman, Chief Henry Ajomale, was summoned to familiarise the party’s flag bearers with the challenge ahead of them.

The Party Chairman in his remarks asked the party’s representatives at the next elections to start their campaign by reaching out to the other aspirants who lost during the primaries saying “they are still our Party members. We are one family and we must move forward and win the elections together”. He then urged the candidates to go out and meet the people of their constituencies and start their campaigns in earnest. He asked the candidates to go from street to street and door to door to sensitise their constituencies.

He asked the party flag bearers that they have a big task ahead of them and reminded them that they had only just scaled the first phase of the journey. He asked them to keep to the Party tenets and stressed that discipline and hardwork were essential to emerge victorious at the elections in 2015.

On his part, the Party’s Publicity Secretary, Joe Igbokwe, asked all the party’s representatives to go out and occupy their areas with promotional materials. He said they should make their constituencies feel their presence and the presence of the party.

The candidates assured the party of their willingness to work hard to win the elections and discussed other internal party issues.

The Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola, today on behalf of the State Government presented the Lagos State Development Plan 2012 – 2025. This epoch-making event was held at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Alausa.

The State Governor in presenting the plan stated that what has been achieved by the state is already gone and behind in time. He however stated that what is ahead is much greater than what has been done and was the reason the government had taken pains to plan for the future. It was in the light of this that he urged all present t ensure that care is taken in deciding who implements the Lagos State development plan. He stated that Lagos State was too important to be left in the hands of those who want to experiment with it.

To buttress his point, Babatunde Fashola invited Akinwunmi Ambode, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the State and presented him with a copy of the Lagos State Development Plan. Governor Fashola had earlier referred to Akinwunmi Ambode as the man who would succeed him as the Governor of Lagos State and in opening his speech, thanked Mr. Amnbode for making time in this period of electioneering to attend the event. This he said showed the importance Akinwunmi Ambode placed on planning and continuing with the development recorded by the State.

Earlier in the event, the Honourable Commissioner, Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Ben Akabueze, stated that the Lagos State Development Plan was built on Four pillars namely: Economic Development, Infrastructural Development, Social Development and Security and Sustainable Environment. These pillars rest on a base Finance, Governance and Capacity Building. There were goodwill messages from the Country Director of the World Bank, The Department for International Development(DFID) and French Development Agency and SPARC, a UK aid agency.

The event was attended by top government officials including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. (Mrs) Ranti Adebule, the Head of Service, Mrs. Williams and Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning, Iyabowale Aluko.

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos state, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, was present at a well-conducted 3rd National Convention Presidential Primary of the party held at the Teslim Balogun stadium, Lagos.

In a democratic manner similar to that through which Akinwunmi Ambode himself recently emerged victorious as the party’s gubernatorial flag bearer in Lagos, the APC conducted a successful presidential primary election which yielded General Muhammadu Buhari as the winner.

The Dr. Kayode Fayemi-led National planning committee lived up to its promise of delivering a well-conducted primary and convention where 7,214 accredited delegates participated. The whole event was characterized by a strong sense of unity, brotherliness, progressiveness, devotion and change.

Speaking through their national chairman, Chief John Oyegun, the APC introduced a manifesto of “hope, aspiration and help”, to kick off an eventful convention.

Akinwunmi Ambode earlier expressed his pride in being a product of a party like the APC where processes work well, and was happy to be involved in the almost 2-day proceedings, both as a keen observer and as a gubernatorial flag bearer.
He was warmly received by the Lagos State delegates as well as delegates of other states.

Akinwunmi Ambode eulogized the party for laying down standards of internal democracy which other parties should consider emulating.
