The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode, has restated his commitment to lead a government of inclusion where every Lagosian, irrespective of tribe or ethnicity, is carried along in the quest to make Lagos greater.
He said this today while receiving a donation of buses from the Nigeria Progressive Ambassadors, at an event held at the APC party headquarters in Ogba, Lagos.
“Every group in Lagos is safe in my hands as Governor. I will not discriminate against any religious or ethnic group. It is our Lagos and we must build it together”, Ambode stated.
Speaking further, Ambode said, “In my acceptance speech after the primaries I made this note that I will be a Governor for all and Lagos is safe in my hands. I want to build on the foundation of unity. Peace and progress and development laid by my predecessor”. “I am your best choice for a Lagos that must continue to thrive. And though tongue and tribe may differ we stand in brotherhood in Lagos from the smallest ethnic groups to the major ones. We are all stakeholders”.
Speaking through the group’s General Secretary, Miss Vuakpor Ojo, the group was described as that of young persons who strongly believe in the future of Lagos and the country as a whole. “We are body of forward-thinking Nigerians who are ready to partner with people who have the ability to give an enabling future to this state and sustain its excellence”.
“You are one of us, and these donation of 20 buses depicts our commitment to the cause to make a detribalized leader like you, who understands the cosmopolitan nature of Lagos, govern the state starting May 29, 2015”, Vuakpor Ojo said.
The buses were donated to support the last leg of Ambode’s gubernatorial campaign efforts.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in Lagos state, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, today spoke on the “Owuro Lawa” TV programme at LTV8, assuring Lagosians of full governance benefits when elected as the next Governor of the state. He said the only form of governance he strongly believes in is the one that is strictly people-oriented, and he intends to do that in accordance with the manifesto of his party.
“It is a new dawn of governance at the Federal level with the APC government, and this offers us the wonderful opportunity to consolidate on the achievements of our government here in Lagos state”.
“Our votes for the APC come Saturday will make the continuity of excellence much more assured in Lagos state, and accelerate our development. More importantly, electing the APC will make Lagos enjoy full support and benefits from the national level for the first time in 16 years of democracy.”
He promised the implementation of public sector reforms that will continually seek to bring comfort to women, the senior citizens, business owners, artisans and all Lagosians. “The youths especially, are set to benefit from our Party’s readiness to create jobs through empowerment and productive engagement, both at the state and federal levels”.
Ambode moved to Radio Lagos on its “Oju Taye” programme, where he reiterated his commitment to take Lagos to the next level, enumerating many programmes aimed at bettering the lives of all its inhabitants. He further urged Lagosians to shun violence and come out en masse to vote for him to ensure that Lagos remains on the path of steady progress.
“We belief the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will be much more organized this time. I therefore urge Lagosians to come out to vote for Akinwunmi Ambode and all other APC candidates, and you have to defend those votes”.
“Our state is naturally bound to get more with an APC government at both levels. I believe we will all key into this reality and together achieve that dream Lagos where there’s adequate comfort and prosperity for all”, Ambode finally noted.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Lagos state, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has stated that it only requires good discretion in any sincere and well-meaning Lagosian, to know that the state will thrive much better by voting for the APC in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections. He said this is even more imperative now considering the fact that the party has been elected to govern at the national level. He stated this today during a chat with Channels television’s political anchor, Seun Okinbaloye on the programme, “Politics Today”,
Mr. Ambode argued that for Lagos to have worked well in the past 16 years despite being in opposition, the possibilities of doing much more now with a “friendly” government at the centre are endless. He said, “Everybody commends the level of growth and development that has been achieved in Lagos under the APC in the past 16years. This development is set to be accelerated with an APC government at the centre, and I strongly believe that Lagosians should take advantage of this opportunity by voting for the party come April 11. It is the commonsensical and wise thing to do”
Ambode added that the primary responsibility of any government is the welfare and safety of its citizens. He enumerated some of his plans to achieve these cardinal objectives in accordance with the party manifesto. He pledged to use his financial expertise to manouever the tough economic times ahead considering the expected dwindling revenues from the federal government.. “Lagos has had a relatively stable economy over the past few years. It has grown remarkably being the only state that generates 67% of its total revenue from its internally generated revenue. What Lagos needs now is a more robust economy which can withstand the challenges that will be posed by the dwindling oil prices, and I have the proven financial management wizardry to ensure that”.
Ambode promised to use his political will to attract investors that will partner with the government to explore and maximize the potential of Lagos coastal waters, especially along the lines of tourism and transport. He pointed to his Employment Trust Fund and Small Business Credit Guarantee Scheme as some of the policies that have been designed to make the ordinary man on the street partake in the prosperity of the state.
When asked about his thoughts and expectations from the Lagos Igbos, Ambode stressed that Lagos state is too cosmopolitan that it cannot be divided along tribal or ethnic lines. He said, “This election is about choices and interests, and I’m sure that every Lagosian, be it Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba, is interested in the progress of this place we all call home, so, I’m sure the Igbos will vote for the APC”. Ambode expressed confidence about the victory for him and his party, saying that the feedback gotten from the polity shows that the people are happy with the APC manifesto, and as such will keep supporting them. “We’ve worked hard, we have a score-card that says we have performed well and the Lagos electorates are happy. As a truly progressive party remain committed to the people, these are the facts that assure us of victory in the forthcoming state elections”, he said.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Lagos state, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, was today the special guest on “The Ambassadors Radio show” at UNILAG radio 103.1 FM. Ambode used this rare opportunity back in his alma mater to inspire his listeners with his experiences and as well as engage them about his plans to take Lagos to the next level.
“My Father was instrumental in the development of my drive to be successful and my undying knack for excellence. He remains my role model, and if there’s one thing I’d love the youth to learn from my experience growing up till now, it would be the truth that challenges bring the best out of you”, Ambode noted. Ambode stated that the turning point of his life was the passing of his father. Rather than discourage him, Ambode stated that the death of his Father served as a catalyst that triggered the innate abilities and leadership qualities that God gave him.
Regarding his desire to serve Lagos state, Ambode said his ambition is tied to his relentless belief in selfless service adding that his plans align with the largely people-oriented manifesto of the APC.
“I dream of government of inclusion that gives us a safer, cleaner and more prosperous Lagos, that is driven by a robust economy and which thrives with the principle of fairness and equity”. He added, “My plans also align with the programmes of the newly elected APC Federal government, an example of which is the immediate creation of 20,000 jobs in each state, and this is in tandem with my plan to set up an Employment Trust Fund meant to support our youths’ entrepreneurial and wealth-creation potentials”
In conclusion, Ambode urged the youth and well-meaning Lagosians to vote for him in the April 11 elections to consolidate on the collective achievement of March 28, that saw victory for the APC at the Federal level. “We made history as Nigerians last week. I assure Lagosians that a consolidating vote for the APC in the gubernatorial elections is a sure bet for greater prosperity in Lagos”, Ambode said.
The Ambassadors radio show is a program set up to celebrate personalities, mostly UNILAG alumni, who have distinguished themselves in different areas of life, with an aim to use their stories as an inspiration to the listeners.
